Feeding Frenzy Frustration

At twilight on a summer evening, the Deerfield River near Bardwell’s Ferry Bridge can come alive with trout dimpling the surface like rain drops . I witnessed this phenomenon on many occasions and just as often was unable to get them to take my traditional dry fly offeeings.

After doing a little investigating (see, e.g., Phil Rowley Fly Fishing +1) I learned that the phenomenon is the emergence of the caddis fly. A lot has written about it….I should have read it sooner!

I decided to tie an imitation, beginning with an illustration I found in one of the fly fishing mags:

Fishing this fly on the Deerfield River at dusk made the difference…..a game changer for me….I now actually catch a few now and then!
